It's official I have made an enemy at work.... The typewriter... How I loathe that thing!!!! Right now it does not have anything to fix mistakes, so I had to do something 3 times because getting the buttons to line up is a task, but I won, stupid thing didn't beat me. So that was my first problem, I had to slow down with the typing, that is how I fixed the issue.
I use Estate-a-Base, quite a bit, I had a training session today... I learned some neat tricks that I wish I had known in school. Estate-a-Base, has a ton of features that seem to be hidden. Now I would try to reply what they are, but honestly, it is something I have to actually be looking at to know.
I prepare so many Affidavits of Execution, I do some letters to the Minister of Finance, oh I love pre-drafted letters. I've done a reporting letter for a will but needed some help with that because I've never seen one if I have I don't remember. I can't remember what else I have done. There are some other things.
I have no accounting responsibilities.
I feel more or less comfortable, but it's totally been a hell of a weekend or week, so I feel as comfortable as possible.
Some of the equipment is strange to use, I wish there was half a class to teach us how to use some of it and how to troubleshoot, I'm trying to think of a word that to describe what I feel without swearing, hmmmm..... I know annoying issues. My way of saying it would have made more sense.
I only called a client once and it went well.
Hope everyone is doing well!!!!
Sounds like you get to learn so many more new things at your placement! What type of documents are you having to create with a type writer anyway? My firm has one, but it sits in the creepy basement/break room (people only use the microwave then eat at their desk though-it's that creepy down there), and no one has used it in years.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it is haunted down there, does the typewriter ever have anything mysteriously typed on it? Not create really just fill in the blanks, but you have to get it exactly right it is not fun.
DeleteLOL! We have a typewriter at my place too. It has a computer keyboard though. Never seen anything like it. I saw one of the clerks using it the other day. So, I guess it's not just for decoration.
ReplyDeleteHi Meghan,
ReplyDeleteIt's good to hear your using a familiar software we used in class. We also use Estate-a-Base at our law firm and I'm happy to know my way around it. Do you ever use any precedents from our files or templates we used in class to guide you through any files during placement? I find always bringing my notes/precedents make it easier to remember how things suppose to be done or if I simply need help I have my notes.
That's very interesting how your law firm still uses a typewriter! I'm not sure how I would be using one because we don't have one and I always seem to be pressing the backspace on a keyboard.
I hope you enjoy your last week of placement ! Enjoy!
No I don't use anything from class everything is basically set up and it's slightly different.
DeleteThe typewriter beat me the other day, I really dislike it.
Enjoy your last week too!
What exactly do you use your typewriter for? Is it used a lot and have they ever considered using a type writing software which projects that of the same image of a typewriter? We also have a typewriter at the firm although I forget what they mentioned it was used for, but I will be asking this week as I am curious to see if it is used for the same thing as your firm.
ReplyDeleteWell the other day I tried to cheat and make my own sheet, but ran out of time it was a Transmission, but there is one thing that just wouldn't be possible unless I find it online it's some kind of government card you enter social insurance info on.
DeleteHey Meghan,
ReplyDeleteI had to face the big scary intimidating reporting letter this week myself. What kind of system does your office use for creating your reporting letter? the one I did was a saved precedent that I was told read and manipulate as the situation called for, such as deleting unnecessary paragraphs or choosing between two paragraphs.
I had a precedents but had to manipulate it,it's on Word Perfect so that is always fun. :p The way it was set out was straightforwardish, it's colour coded to know what needs to be changed, but getting the highlighted parts off is fun. If I wasn't sure about something I kept it highlighted so the person that goes over my work knew what I wasn't sure about.
